A quick reminder that there is NO Seniors Roll Up this week. Instead, Thursday belongs to the Senior Club Championship — the day when every putt suddenly feels six feet longer and “just knock it round” ceases to be a convincing game plan.

If you haven’t entered yet, don’t leave it too late. Sign up in the Pro Shop before close of play on Monday 31 August. Come on, Seniors — let’s give the Championship the field it deserves.

And while we’ve all spent much of the summer commenting on the hard fairways, watching drives run considerably further than our technique deserved, there’s a fascinating post and video explaining what has actually been happening behind the scenes. “How We Maintained Boundary Lakes During a Dry Summer” is well worth a read and watch (link). It gives a real insight into the work involved in keeping the course going through one of the longest, driest spells we’ve seen.

Then, once the trophies have been decided and the inevitable tales of what might have been have been suitably embellished, normal service resumes.
